WHY
BALLROOM?:
|
|

|
Remember
the days when ballroom dancing was part of P.E. class
in school? Ballroom dancing is one of those fundamental
skills that's sort of gone by the way side. But
not at Miss Ollie's. We've had too many patrons
ask for us to offer classes so we listened (oh and the
hit T.V. show Dancing with the Stars helped too).

HEALTH
BENEFITS OF BALLROOM DANCING?:
|
|

|
One
hour of ballroom dancing can help the body burn between
200 and 500 calories, depending on the intensity. In
addition to weight loss, it is also known to improve
posture, cardio-vascular endurance, balance, agility,
circulation, and flexibility. Ballroom dance can
truly be a total body workout or even an intense aerobic
exercise when dancing quick steps for continuous segments
of time. On the other hand, it is also a low impact
activity. Therefore, ballroom dancing naturally benefits
people of all ages and fitness levels.

OTHER BENEFITS
OF BALLROOM DANCING?:
|
|

|
Stressful
workdays can easily be balanced by a little time dancing.
Not only will you feel better, but you will also
find yourself concentrating on the dance moves, the
music, your partner…everything but your stressors. As
your skills increase, so will your self-esteem and confidence.
Let’s not also forget that dancing is just FUN!
Ballroom dance is often also referred to as “social
dance” because it allows you to develop strong social
ties and maybe even an improved romantic relationship
with your partner or those in your class. These relationships
also contribute to improved mood, confidence, and fun.
What do you have to lose!?

CLASS
DETAILS?:
|
|

|
We're
hosting ballroom dancing class at Miss Ollie's every
other Tuesday from 7:00p-8:30p so long as we have a
minimum of 10 participants.
Scheduled Tuesday classes
(see below for dates) are held from 7:00p-8:30p (1 and
1/2 hours of instruction!)
No
experience is required, nor are you required to bring
your own dance partner. You may join any week.
Class
fee: $15 per person, per class.
A curriculum of the six major dances has
been divided into three
sections: Fox Trot/Swing, Waltz/Cha Cha, and Tango/Rumba. We address
one section each week. We spend approximately 30 minutes on each dance,
and finish up the class with 30 minutes of social dance.
Class
format:
Fox Trot/Swing: (30
minutes each style) or Waltz/Cha
Cha (30
minutes each style) or Tango/Rumba (30
minutes each) style followed
by
Social
Dance: (30
minutes) For this
portion, everyone is encouraged to rotate partners. This prepares
students for actual social dancing, and allows the people who came
without a partner to dance with one...
Which brings us to why
there is No
Partner Necessary! The first two parts of the class are focused on
feet. Each student will learn his or her steps. You definitely don't
need a partner to learn your own steps. The last section allows
everyone to have a partner due to the rotation of the class. We play a
variety of music. This includes timeless classics and ballroom
standards as well as the music of today that you would be more likely
to hear out dancing.
A
minimum attendance of 10 participants is required for
us to hold the ballroom dancing class during each scheduled
Tuesday.
Please
rsvp to missollies@hotmail.com
for the dates you plan to attend.
